Question from Mike March 19, 2007 at 7:00pm
Hi Kathy,I am a Washington resident, but had a seven ages arrangement in Oregon aftermost year. I formed in Portland 50% of that 7 months and formed from home the of the time. The antecedent was a third affair based in Missouri. They paid me with sources they acquired from California. Assets tax was withheld for Oregon. Should I get all of that aback or a portion, and do I owe Missouri od Califonia?Best regards,Mike
Answer: Mike – For Oregon tax purposes you are a adopted of Oregon and will be appropriate to book a Form 40N, Oregon Individual Assets Tax Acknowledgment for Nonresidents. You will address the Oregon accomplishment in the “Oregon column” of the tax return.
Whether you will get any of the Oregon witholding aback depends on several factors including the bulk of the income, your filing cachet and any additions or subtractions that you may have. My advancement is to ample out the Oregon Form 40N and see.
If third affair was your employer and they are in Missouri but you lived in Washington and formed in Oregon again unless you accept Missouri accomplishment appear on a Form W-2 you do not accept a claim to book a Missouri tax return.
You accept no claim to book a California acknowledgment – that is not the analogue of California antecedent income.
